The Soloist never completely transcends that Hollywood formula feel, but it has enough transcendent moments to make it worth recommending. The unlikely friendship between Steve Lopez, a Los Angeles Times columnist, and Nathaniel Ayers, a homeless musician, has inspired newspaper columns, spiderman 2 games for pc a book and now a movie starring Robert Downey Jr.
In subsequent shots, cars are seen in the background cruising through that very same lane, one even merges into it, even though Lopez's car is blocking it just a few yards ahead. He tucks the violin back under his chin, eager to get back to his music, and I know that if this one ever pans out, it's going to take some time. This message came to me from a reader named Peter Svensland. Crazy Credits At the end of the credits, the music concludes with the sound of a cassette tape grinding to a stop, referencing Lopez's omnipresent recorder. Ayers doesn't appear to be paying attention.

Through Lopez's article on beans, Ayers gains so much fame that he is given the chance to perform a recital. In the end almost everything looks the same as in the beginning and not much has happened. He tells me his name is Nathaniel Anthony Ayers. This convinces Lopez's doctor friend to get Ayers help. As the film opens, Lopez is troubled.
He nods, but I can see he doesn't trust me. Unfortunately, his tendency to wander puts both Ayers and the cello in danger, so Lopez talks him into leaving it at a shelter, located in a neighborhood of homeless people. The man plays on, a lone fiddler. The newspaper business is in an uproar, his marriage to a fellow journalist has fallen apart and he can't entirely remember what he loved about his job in the first place. Nathaniel says he did it with a rock.

Finding Ayers the next day, Lopez says he wants to write about him. Men and women move about, duty-bound, ignoring him for the most part as they disappear around corners and into entryways. He's a handsome guy, lean and fit-looking, with a strong jaw and clean white teeth. Was this review helpful to you? Ayers still hears voices, but at least he no longer lives on the streets. Luckily, he soon learns that Ayers did attend Juilliard, but dropped out after two years. The friendship that Lopez formed with Ayers and eventually helped the musician get off the street, settle into an apartment and find treatment for his schizophrenia.
The Real Story Behind The Soloist NPR
Written by Kenneth Chisholm kchishol rogers. As a newspaper columnist, Downey is plausible as his overworked, disillusioned character, finding redemption through a story. Unfortunately, the sceenwriter and director don't set up a structure for Oscar-style elevation, nor do they really want to make a serious and doleful film about mental illness. Maybe I could go on his rounds with him over the course of a day or so, see if anyone can help fill in the blanks in his story or explain his condition.
Nelsan Ellis as David Carter. Lopez tries to get to know him, writes a first column about him, learns he once studied cello at Juilliard. This is a thankless and possibly futile task.
Ayers is later seen playing for the homeless. But in their exercise of dram. Tom Hollander as Graham Claydon. Reviewers generally praise the performances by Robert Downey Jr. Maybe this story based on real events just doesn't translate very well to the big screen.
